# Mouraria & Graça: A Walk Through Lisbon's Real Soul

**Guidekin's take:** Our own walk through Mouraria and Graça, the quarter where fado was born and the village like hill above it, with a guide who lives there and tells the story of fado on the doorstep. Food, drinks and hotel pickup are not included; the lanes and staircases are steep. €38 per person for 3h.

## Overview

Most visitors photograph Lisbon from the outside. This walk takes you inside it. Mouraria and Graça are where the city actually lives: the multicultural quarter where fado was born, and the village-like hill above it where neighbours still hang their washing across the street and gather at the corner tasca.

We wander the steep lanes and hidden staircases, past tiled façades, street art and the little shrines locals tend. You'll hear the story of fado where it began, on the doorsteps of Mouraria, and see the murals that honour its legends. Up in Graça the pace slows: a leafy square, a rattling tram, and a viewpoint or two where the whole city spreads out below.

It isn't a list of monuments. It's the real, lived-in Lisbon, the one that doesn't make the postcards but stays with you longer. Come curious and a little hungry, and your guide will point you to the good stuff.

## Itinerary

1. **Martim Moniz** (20m) - We start where Lisbon's many cultures meet, at the lively square below Mouraria.
2. **Mouraria's fado lanes** (35m) - The birthplace of fado: doorsteps, murals and the legends who sang here.
3. **Escadinhas & hidden staircases** (25m) - Steep cobbled stairs, tiled walls and the little shrines locals still tend.
4. **Largo da Graça** (25m) - A leafy village square up the hill, with a rattling tram and a slower pace.
5. **A Graça viewpoint** (20m) - We finish at a miradouro where the whole city opens up below.
