## Overview

Following the southern coast of the island, stop at Vila Franca do Campo (first Capital of the island). Head for the wonderful Furnas Valley, a natural theater with the blue sea and the green hills through the route. Awaits us, a lagoon ripped through gardens of sparkling flowers and dense forest taking us to the world of fairy tales.
Area of mineral and thermal waters, near Lagoa das Furnas where next to the fumaroles you'll see where the famous “Cozido” stew is cooked in holes inside earth´s heat for 6 to 7 hours and you can taste at a local restaurant (not included).
In the parish of Furnas a magnificent setting, provided by fumaroles, will wrap you in a fog of mystery and magical atmosphere.
You can also experience a thermal bath in iron waters at a temperature around 39º C(102ºF) at Terra Nostra Botanical Garden (entrance fee not included).
Returning through de North coast visit a tea plantation from the XIX century and witness all the stages of tea precessing and taste some tea.

1. **Plantacoes de Cha Gorreana** (30m) - On the way stop at Europe’s oldest, and currently only, remaining Tea plantation. Chance to visit Chá Gorreana’s boutique, factory, museum and enjoy a cup of fresh picked tea grown far away from industrial pollution in the lush emerald green hills.
2. **Lagoa das Furnas** (30m; admission included) - Area of secondary volcanism where you'll see fumaroles and how its cooked the "cozido" pot-au-feu in holes on the heat of the volcano
3. **Caldeira das Furnas** (3h) - Inside the caldeira its where you can have the thermal bath, lunch and also visit the fumaroles on the village of Furnas and taste mineral water
4. **Castelo Branco** (10m) - Heading to the Caldera of Furnas Volcano stop at Cartelo Branco Viewpoint tha gives a view of the Caldera of the Volcano and of Vilca Franca Village
5. **Islet of Vila Franca do Campo** (15m) - Stop at a viewpoint of the islet of Vila Franca, a submarine eruptions resulting in a beautiful natural pool. Vila Franca do Campo was the first Capital of the island of São Miguel
