# Roman London Private Walking Tour

**Guidekin's take:** Roman building remains among the City of London's modern streets are the focus of a private tour for your party. A professional guide leads the walk; transport to and from attractions is excluded, and temple access at peak times requires advance booking. 4.98 from 47 reviews at €220 per person for 3h–4h.

## Overview

You don't have to go to Rome to see Roman ruins, or even St Albans,  Bath or York.  Though people were all ready living here, it was the Romans who founded the modern city of Londinium that through the millennia has metamorphosed into today what is possibly the greatest city in the world.

This private walking tour will take you to little visited spots in the heart of the City of London where the remains of Roman buildings can still be found, hidden amongst all the skyscrapers of the 21st century.

## Itinerary

2. **The Church of St Vedast Alias Foster** (5m) - A few feet from where we start at St Pauls, the old Roman Temple for the goddess Diana, we find our first Roman remains, hidden away from the street as well as something considerably older!
3. **A stretch of Roman Wall only discovered thanks to the Luftwaffe in WW2** (5m)

5. **London Wall** (10m) - We will see this wall in several places including where you'd never expect to see Roman ruins.
6. **Guildhall** (5m) - The beautiful old hall which is central to the ancient City of London Corporation dominates the square but if you look closer we will see the Roman connections.
7. **London's Roman Amphitheatre** (25m; admission included) - Under the original Roman streets of London we will stand in the footsteps of Gladiators in the Roman Amphitheatre that was only discovered a few decades ago.
8. **Mansion House of City of London** (pass by, no stop) - The old official residence of the Lord Mayor of London
9. **The very heart of old Roman London with its majestic and overpowering stone b...** (5m) - The very heart of old Roman London with its majestic and overpowering stone buildings.
10. **Royal Exchange Building London** (10m; admission included) - Standing in front of this magnificent old building is like being in ancient Rome.

13. **Tomb of the Unknown Roman Girl** (2m) - A beautiful memorial to one of the oldest citizens of London.

18. **All Hallows By The Tower** (15m; admission included) - In this beautiful old church amongst other things we will see the oldest archway in London as well as seeing the remains of an old Roman house
