1. 1
   Praha hlavni nadrazi

Your Kutná Hora day trip begins at Praha hlavní nádraží, Prague's grand main train station and one of the city's finest Art Nouveau landmarks. Meet your guide in front of the main ticket office of České dráhy (Czech Railways) between 9:15 and 9:30 AM, ahead of a 10:00 AM departure. With a little time before boarding, your guide walks you to the Wilson Memorial, honoring US President Woodrow Wilson for his role in the founding of Czechoslovakia in 1918 — a fitting first stop before a day steeped in Bohemian history. From here, settle in for the scenic hour-long train ride east across the Bohemian countryside, past rolling hills, small villages, and church spires, as Prague gives way to the quieter towns that once fueled the region's medieval silver-mining wealth. Praha hlavní nádraží is easily reached by metro (Line C, Hlavní nádraží station), tram, or on foot from central Prague, making it a simple, central starting point for your Kutná Hora day trip from Prague.

The Cemetery Church of All Saints with the Ossuary

Your first stop in Kutná Hora is the Sedlec Ossuary, housed within the Cemetery Church of All Saints — one of the most extraordinary sights in the Czech Republic. Before stepping inside, your guide gathers the group in the surrounding graveyard for 5-10min to share the remarkable story of this small Gothic chapel: how holy soil brought back from Jerusalem in the 13th century turned Sedlec into one of Central Europe's most coveted burial grounds, and how a 19th-century woodcarver later arranged the remains of an estimated 40,000 to 70,000 people into the bone chandeliers, garlands, and coat of arms on display today. Out of respect for the site and to help preserve it for future visitors, time inside the ossuary is limited to 30 minutes, and photography is prohibited — so put your camera away for this part of the tour and take in the bone church with your own eyes. It is a small, quiet, and genuinely unforgettable stop on any Kutná Hora day trip from Prague.

After the macabre visit to the Ossuary, take a well-earned 10-minute break at Coffin & Coffee, a quirky little café just steps from the cemetery gates — its playful name a nod to the bone church you've just visited

Grab an espresso, a pastry, or simply catch your breath before continuing your Kutná Hora day trip. People rave about the friendly service and excellent coffee at this 5-star Google local favorite. From here, hop on a local public bus for the short ride into the heart of Kutná Hora's UNESCO-listed Old Town. Traveling by public transport keeps this leg of the journey carbon neutral, a small way to show appreciation for the natural beauty of Kutná Hora and the surrounding Bohemian countryside. It's a brief pause, but a welcome one — equal parts caffeine fix and change of pace between two very different sides of this medieval mining town.

   St Barbara's Cathedral

   Socha Svateho Floriana

Continue along the tree-lined terrace between St Barbara's Cathedral and the former Jesuit College, one of the most photogenic corners of Kutná Hora. Pause at the Statue of St Florian (Socha svatého Floriána), patron saint of protection against fire, one of several Baroque statues that line this elevated walkway. Your guide points out the Jesuit College itself, a grand 17th-century building that once trained Jesuit priests and now houses a modern and contemporary art gallery. From this terrace, the views open up over the Vrchlice valley and the rooftops of Kutná Hora below — one of the best photo stops on the entire day trip, and a peaceful moment to take in the medieval town from above before continuing on.

After your morning among Kutná Hora's churches, break for lunch at Dačický, a beloved local restaurant set inside a beautifully restored historic building near the Old Town

Named after the Czech writer Mikuláš Dačický z Heslova, this atmospheric tavern serves hearty, traditional Czech cuisine — think goulash, chicken schnitzel, and svíčková, ladled with rich sauces and served alongside bread or potato dumplings — in a dining room of exposed timber beams, painted ceilings, and centuries-old stone walls. They serve a limited-batch beer brewed right here in Kutná Hora — a genuine taste you simply won't find back in Prague, and only €2.50/0,5l. Lunch is at your own expense and pace, giving you a relaxed hour to refuel before the afternoon's exploring continues at Hrádek. This family business is in it's 2nd generation, the average meal price is €15 (beer is €2.50 for 0,5l), incredible value for money. Feel free to bring your own lunch, you are welcome to sit with the group and enjoy.

   Historicke Centrum Kutne Hory

Arriving in the heart of Kutná Hora's UNESCO-listed Old Town, wander cobbled lanes and quiet squares that once belonged to one of medieval Europe's wealthiest silver-mining settlements. Your guide points out the Gothic and Baroque facades, hidden courtyards, and grand merchant houses that made this compact town rich enough to rival Prague itself in the Middle Ages. A highlight along the way is the Vlašský dvůr (Italian Court), the town's former royal palace and mint, named for the Italian metalworkers brought in to strike the famous Prague groschen silver coins here in the 14th century. Look for the carved coats of arms and coin reliefs decorating its façade, a reminder of the wealth that once flowed through this unassuming building. Your guide rounds out the story of Kutná Hora's rise as a medieval powerhouse before you make your way back toward the train station for the journey home to Prague.
