Our selection is built by rule, applied the same way in every city. We start from every Playa del Carmen tour in the Guidekin catalogue, each already rated at least 4.5 by 30 or more travellers, and keep only private tours at the premium end of the market.
Private means the operator sells the tour as private and does not describe it as shared, semi-private or small-group, and the price we show is the price of a private booking: a tour whose cheapest ticket is a shared or semi-private group does not qualify. Premium means at least €150 per person for a party of two, and either a price in the top quarter of what Playa del Carmen tours cost or a true luxury format: yachts, helicopters, chauffeured cars, after-hours access, champagne, fine dining. Day tours only: multi-day trips, courses and lessons, self-drive buggies, quads, jet skis, dive trips, bike and tuk-tuk rides and party boats are not what a luxury traveller books, however much they cost, and they stay out together with transfers, one-way drives, treks, camping trips, photo shoots and proposals, as does anything sold in a language other than English.
The 20 tours below are the top of that list by our rating, which weighs the average score by how many travellers gave it, with no more than two tours from one operator. The table compares the top ten (the whole list when it is shorter) on price, duration, group size, pickup, tickets, languages and cancellation terms. The list is recalculated as the catalogue changes: new tours, price updates and tours that fall below our bar move in and out on their own.
