Planning a trip to Lisbon

Best time to visit

Lisbon rewards a visit year-round, but spring (March to May) and early autumn (September to October) are the sweet spot: warm days, lighter crowds and better prices than peak summer. July and August are hot and busiest, ideal for boat and beach day trips, while winters stay mild, quiet and great value.

Getting there & around

Most visitors land at Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), about 20 minutes from the centre by metro or taxi. The city is walkable but steep, so lean on the historic trams, the metro and short rideshare hops between hills. Many tours include hotel pickup or start from central, easy-to-reach meeting points.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pena Palace runs on timed entry and the ticket queues are real. Tours that pre-book entries remove both problems: the wait at the gate and the risk of time slots selling out.

Pena-only versions cover the headline palace and leave other entries to you. All-tickets versions also pre-book Quinta da Regaleira and the rest of the itinerary's monuments. The inclusions list on each tour page spells out exactly what's covered.

The ticket logistics are identical. Groups with tickets run €80 to €120 per person; private versions €155 to €295, and the extra buys the van, the pace and the flexibility.
