Lisbon rewards a visit year-round, but spring (March to May) and early autumn (September to October) are the sweet spot: warm days, lighter crowds and better prices than peak summer. July and August are hot and busiest, ideal for boat and beach day trips, while winters stay mild, quiet and great value.
Most visitors land at Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), about 20 minutes from the centre by metro or taxi. The city is walkable but steep, so lean on the historic trams, the metro and short rideshare hops between hills. Many tours include hotel pickup or start from central, easy-to-reach meeting points.
Short private rides start around €16 to €17 per person, half-day tours run €45 to €90, and a few operators charge per vehicle (about €130 per tuk-tuk), which works out cheaper for groups of three or more.
Anything from a one-hour themed ride to five hours. The most popular format is 2 to 4 hours, enough to cover the hills, the viewpoints and one or two neighbourhoods properly.
Practically all of them: 27 of the 28 tours on this page are private, so the tuk-tuk is yours and the route usually flexes to your interests.
Lisbon is built on seven hills with lanes too narrow for coaches. Tuk-tuks climb to the miradouros and into Alfama's alleys where buses physically can't go.
October gives you 22.5C days, a sea still warmer than June and thinning crowds, plus the year's first real rain and the evening the clocks take away on 25 October.
The wildest beach within reach of Lisbon, where the wind runs the day. Which bus actually goes there, whether you can swim, and how to time the nortada.
Lisbon's own beach is 15km of Atlantic sand across the bridge. Which bus to take, which stretch to pick, and why the famous beach train still isn't running.
From the Algarve's warm lagoon islands to the empty Alentejo and Porto Santo's 9km of golden sand: where Portugal's best beaches really are, coast by coast.
